Raila Odinga – The Enigma of a man

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga the father of Raila Odinga was a prominent politician in Kenyan Post independence history. He actually was a Vice President of Kenya under Jomo Kenyatta immediately after the 1963 post-independence. He however fell out with Jomo Kenyatta & was kicked out of the Jomo Kenyatta Government since he had Pro China Soviet Union ideologies unlike the American views that President Kenyatta was aligned to.

He would later make a comeback to politics as he was appointed in Arap Moi Govt (Kenya’s longest serving President) as minister of Cotton lint Marketing Board. Yet again he attempted a coup against Arap Moi this time with his son Raila Odinga who he had been mentoring under the leadership of Private Hezekiah Ochuka. He was put under house arrest as a financier of the coup in 1987. He would later be released and returned to form a Political Party in 1991 called Forum for the Restoration of Democracy.

In 1992, Raila Odinga became the Member of Parliament (MP) for Langata Constituency 1992-2013 a position that gave him spotlight visibility and fame amongst the masses.

It was the helm of his political career, and he had gained power and influence, so he decided to throw in his hat for the position of President and in 2008 he ran for the President of Kenya and lost.

Many Kenyans agree that Raila Odinga won the election as Kibaki was unpopular following the corruptions scandals he had been implicated in especially Goldenberg scandal – a major Kenyan corruption case that involved the fraudulent export of gold and diamonds, resulting in significant financial losses for the country.

The Electoral Commission announced against Raila Odinga and that erupted chaos and bloodshed in the country. What kind of power causes war just to make sure a man doesn’t sit on the throne! He would be compensated with the position of Prime Minister to cease the fights that had seen over 1000 Kenyans dead.

Fast forward March 2013 elections, in which Kenyatta ran for President and Ruto for Deputy President; the two were dubbed “UhuRuto.” beating Raila yet again by over a 50% popularity vote.

In the August 8, 2017, polls Raila Odinga again ran against the incumbent and lost as UhuRuto won with more than 54 percent of the vote. Odinga contested the outcome thru the Supreme Court that annulled the results and instead called for a fresh election, which was held on October 26. Odinga boycotted it and asked his supporters to follow. He lost again!

August 2022 general election, Kenya’s political landscape had dramatically changed since the previous vote. Ruto had fallen out with Kenyatta declaring Ruto unfit to be president and endorsing Odinga for the top spot instead. Still Ruto beat him with 50.49% of the vote and Odinga, with 48.85%. Again, Odinga contested the victory in the Supreme Court that upheld the results, saying that no credible evidence of fraud had been presented. Ruto was inaugurated as president on September 13, 2022.

Recently 2025 He lost the Chairperson position for African Union Commission despite being more popular than Djibouti’s Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and the backing he had from Kenya et other countries. This isn’t coincidence things don’t just happen and hence I searched the books to find out why it be so that like Moses he only sees the promised land but never enters it and this came up.

A story is told of in ancient Kenya political history in the year 1992 at one of the rallies his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga held. Raila entered into contentions with his father as he made a speech, and he made unpalatable words unto him that went “I want to tell you this, if your intention is to sink me down for a takeover you will also struggle until your sunset days trying to be President, and you will never be!”

The Jews believe that once a situation happens twice it has been established and irreversible drawing from the lessons of the Joseph Dream interpretation. You can downplay the spirituality of life but that’s what it is Spiritual. The words spoken out of anger and rage by his dad have since followed and curtailed his political career to date. He just can’t seat on the throne and oversee Nations.
